Immanuel – God With Us
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). – Matthew 1:23 (NIV)
There’s something deeply comforting about the name Immanuel. It doesn’t describe what Jesus does—it describes who He is: God with us.
From the very beginning of Jesus’ earthly life, this promise echoed through history: you are not alone. In the silence, God came near. In the chaos, God stepped in. He didn’t send a messenger or an angel. He came Himself. Wrapped in humanity. Walking beside us. Living with us.
This wasn’t just a temporary visit. Jesus’ birth marked the beginning of God’s physical presence among us, but His resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit ensure that He is still with us today. Not just on the mountaintops, but in hospital rooms, crowded subways, lonely bedrooms, and daily commutes.
So when you feel overlooked, when the weight of life feels too heavy, when the road ahead is unclear—remember Immanuel. God is not far off. He is right here. He is with you. And He’s not leaving.
Reflection Question:
Where in your life do you need to remember that God is truly with you?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being Immanuel, God with us. Not distant or distracted, but present and powerful in every moment. Help me lean on that truth today, especially in the places where I feel alone. Remind me that You are near. Amen.
